How EPC Improvement Steps Work

Each improvement suggested in an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is designed to show how different measures can work together to improve a property’s energy efficiency.

In many cases, the suggested steps are structured so that earlier improvements support or enhance later ones, helping to achieve the greatest overall energy saving.

For example, it is often more energy efficient to improve insulation before upgrading a heating system. A well-insulated property retains heat more effectively, meaning the heating system does not need to work as hard or run as frequently to maintain a comfortable temperature.

Why Order Can Matter

While EPC advice does not need to be followed in a strict sequence, the suggested order is based on how improvements typically interact. This helps property owners understand:

  • Which measures may deliver the biggest impact

  • How improvements can work together

  • Where investment may be best prioritised

Key PointS

All EPC improvement measures are optional, but following a logical order can help maximise energy efficiency and potential cost savings over time.

At A1 Home Inspectors, we aim to present EPC recommendations in a clear and practical way so property owners can make informed decisions at their own pace.
